Art Project; Giant Teacup

We started the art project with an exercise where we had to take an ordinary object and remake it but with a huge increase in scale. We got given a china teacup so had to remake it out of cardboard, and then went around campus and took photos of it in different situations, which was really fun and felt very low pressure. I think it was a good way to start because it really made me relax and enjoy it without trying to complete a brief, like the design project.

On the 2nd day, we experimented with different collage and mixed media methods, including mono printing, wax drawing with inks and other collage and layering techniques. Again, this was very low pressure and was really about having fun and experimenting with the materials, and letting the materials do the work, whilst relying heavily on chance. This required giving up all control over the materials, which was something that I wanted to work on this week, so Im happy that I was able to do this.

I ended the day with this collage of teacups with legs escaping on strings out of a weird portal through layers of interior design in mono chrome colours. The tea cups were coloured using mono printing and paper with ink painted on. I loved just being able to have fun with it and not worry about a context or what it means. This isn't usually the way that I work but I did enjoy doing it.
