Drawing
After spending the first couple of days sitting in various induction lectures, when day 3 came I was excited to start the actual course and do some real art work. We started off with a few simple exercises to kick off the 2 week drawing course, the first being a drawing completely from the imagination, without a reference image; something I had not tried before.

I found that this was something totally different to anything Id done before, which was, in my opinion, the best way to start the course. The second of the drawing exercises was to try and reproduce a photo, but upside down, so that we were forced to focus only on the shapes, rather than what we thought a face should look like, which was the complete opposite to the imagination exercise.

I found that this was quite easy, as soon as I started to look at only the shapes, rather than trying to get it to look like a face. The last of the exercises was probably the most fun, which was blind drawing, where we had to close our eyes and draw our face, only by touching it with one hand and drawing it with the other. I loved the results that came out of this and I found the whole process very relaxing as it required a lot of focus.

One thing that I found quite interesting about the blind drawing was that although the whole image doesn't resemble a face, there are individual features with in it that are recognisable facial features. The last thing we did was explore the line between drawing and sculpture, and whether or not this line actually exists.

I think that it there isn't really a line, and if there is then it is very blurred, as I think that when you use materials to make a sculpture, you are still drawing, just with different materials.
